Wolf and his bodyguards began hanging a bit further back as Fox approached the cave. Wolf heard Fox making quiet chirping sounds that reminded Wolf of a nature documentary he had seen in which mountain lion clubs made similar noises to communicate with their mother. The cave looked like part of a mountainside jutting up from the ground. It had been built by carefully laying huge rocks together so that they fit like puzzle pieces. Intentionally, the rocks were all different shapes and sizes so that the effect looked as natural as possible. In the middle of the structure of boulders was a small opening where one giant rock leaned against another, creating a triangular hole that a person would have to crouch or even crawl to get through.

After a few moments of Fox making his gentle calls, an answering call came from inside the cave. The sound was low and harsh, but sounded strangely like a housecat's meow, that is, if the housecat weighed 200 lbs and had a bad cough. The sound of something heavy shuffling agaisnt hard-packed dirt was heard before a face appeared from the shadows of the cave. The male mountain lion peered out, his eyes a mixture of pale greens, blues, and golds. Many scars could be seen marring the animal's face in thin lines where the fur didn't grow out quite smooth.

Unfortunately, this cat had had particularly bad treatment at the circus. Animals who could be tamed and controlled were better taken care of so that they could look majestic for the audiences. However, there were some animals who were too hard to control to be used for shows. Not wanting to waste his investments, the owner of the circus has used such animals for other, often illegal, money-making schemes. This particular mountain lion had always been stubborn and aggressive with trainers who tried to force him to do tricks. Therefore, one of the uses he had been put to was animal fights. After hours, after the circus had closed down, some of the aggressive animals had sometimes been taken to discreet locations where fights could be staged for people to place bets on. This mountain lion had been pitted against dogs, a few other big cats, and even a bear. He had somehow come out on top at every fight, but the scars on his body and the rips on his ears showed how violent those fights had been.

When the mountain lion saw Fox, his torn ears perked up. But when he saw the other men a short distance behind Fox, the lion bared his teeth and snarled, his ears folding flat against his head.

It almost made Fox cry to see his precious friend. He lowered himself slightly as he approached, a hand outstretched. He continued his small chirps and growls, hoping it would provide comfort. Seeing that it wasn’t doing much, he turned to Wolf. A warning in his eyes for them to steadily retreat a little. The boy was confident the mountain lion wouldn’t harm him, at least not in the ways they anticipated.

The redhead approached the opening, he sat down a few feet outside it. A hand still stretched out, palm up. He bowed his head, making himself small and nonthreatening. Honestly, he wasn’t sure what would happen next. It had been awhile since they had been separated. The mountain lion and him always had had a strong bond, second to Ember of course.

With a nod of understanding, Wolf began to back up very slowly without turning away from the cave. His two gaurds followed his lead. They backed up until they could just barely see the entrance of the cave through the bushes. The mountain lion watched them as they backed away, ears still pressed back. But the further they retreated, the more he seemed to relax. HIs eyes darted to glance at Fox's outretched hand, but his eyes stayed on the three other men until they were almost out of sight.

Although he still wasn't relaxed yet, the mountain lion lost a bit of his tension. His ears, at least, relaxed instead of being pinned down to his head in warning. He looked towards Fox more steadily now. Still seeming unsure, the lion crept a bit further out of his den, stretching his neck to bring his pinkish nose closer to the reaching fingers. He sniffed, his hot breath huffing against the boy's hand. After a few moments, the lion leaned forward just enough to bump the top of his head against the boy's fingertips. Then, the lion looked away as if to ignore the boy completely. But in cat language, that simple bump was acceptance of the boy as a friend, and the fact that the lion seemed to ignore the boy meant the lion did not feel threatened by him.

Fox smiled, it stretched across his entire face. He resisted the urge to tackle the mountain lion, knowing the cat would be affectionate on it’s own terms. He sat still for awhile watching it explore, before he also stood and trailed along. The boy explored the entire space before finally returning to Wolf. He had a stick in his hand and began to write in the dirt.

“Ozark.”

Of course a boy wouldn’t have been creative enough to come up with a more original name. He gestured to the mountain lion in case Wolf didn’t understand.

After their brief greeting, the lion crawled out of the small den opening and slowly walked off, heading uphill and away from the other men he had seen. He didn't hear them approaching, so he took his time, but moved away from them all the same. He did hear Fox following after him, but trusted him enough not to look back. Together, they liesurely strolled around the upper area of the enclosure, Ozark keeping well away from the area where the men had been. Here and there, he stopped to scratch at a log or spray his scent against a rock, the marking of his territory seeming to give him a bit more confidence. When Fox headed back towards where the other men waited, Ozark didn't follow him. He watched him go, instead, before finding a quiet, sheltered place to lie down.

---

Wolf waited patiently as the boy and the lion walked off together. He could tell the lion was still wary of him and his guards, but he seemed comfortable enough with the boy to go wandering off together. That was good. So Wolf waited patiently, finding a nearby log to sit on with his guards standing watch on either side, constantly scanning the area so they woudln't be caught by surprirse if the lion decided to make a return. Finally, the boy reappeared without the lion and scratched another word into the dirt before gesturing towards the direction he had come from. Wolf assumed he was gesturing in the direction where the lion now was.

Wolf nodded as he read the name aloud, "Ozark. That's his name, huh? Well, I'm glad he remembers you. Having someone he trusts will make taking care of him much easier." Wolf stood up from the log and dusted off his pants. "Do you want to stay here a while? Or should I take you back to Ember?"

Fox blinked a few times at Wolf’s question. He knew Ember probably would pace until he returned, but at the same time he wanted to make sure Ozark had settled in properly. He glanced in the direction the wildcat rested. Brown hues shifting slowly back to Wolf. He pointed at the mountain lion, nodding his head. He hoped that would be enough for Wolf to understand.

After another pause he approached Wolf, took his hand, and shook it. Clearly a ‘thank you’ for what he had done. The redhead waited briefly before making his way back to the mountain lion. He slowly approached and nestled by the creature’s stomach. Once more making those growling and chirping sounds.

After shaking hands with Fox and giving him a smile, Wolf left with his guards in tow. Someone would be back a bit later to give the two food, and Wolf would keep an eye on the pair through hidden cameras, just to make sure everything was okay.

---

Ozark lay quietly as Fox approached and curled in next to him. Then he raised his head to lick the top of the boy's head, bright-red locks sticking to the tiny hooks on his tongue. Their first meeting had been nowhere this peaceful. Not all that long ago, the circus owner had started looking for other ways to exploit his less managable animals for a profit. And he had come up with an idea for a different kind of show.

Initiate Flashback

On the outskirts of town, mostly surrounded by desert, an abandoned warehouse had been turned into a fighting ring. All kinds of illegal events had been held here, including dog fights, rooster fights, and fights between much more exotic animals as well. Tonight, however, there was to be a very special kind of show, and the audience was made up of select attendees only, who had paid a much higher price for entry than usual. In the middle of the warehouse, there was a square fight cage made up of heavy-duty wire fencing that formed the four walls and the ceiling. Surrounding the cage on three sides were old bleachers to serve as seats. The crowd filling the seats was much smaller than usual, because tonight's show was both expensive and appealed only to people with certain tastes.

The lights in the warehouse dimmed and spotlights were pointed at the cage from all sides. The circus ringleader welcomed everyone to tonight's show. Then, the first "contender" was brought in. It was a young, rather thin young man, his skin pale and his bright red hair seeming to blaze in the spotlights. The young man was dragged towards the fight cage, his dirty clothes were sprayed with something with a very pungent odor, then he was tossed into the cage, the door slamming shut behind him.

Then, from the other side of the warehouse, the other "contender" was brought in. This one was in a metal box with solid sides so the audience could not see in. But as the box was wheeled up to the center of the warehouse, loud, screaming roars came from within and the box shook as something powerful angrily struck the sides again and again. The box was brought right up to the door of the fight cage and the box was opened. Snarling angrily, torns ears pressed against his head, fur standing on end, a male mountain lion sprang out of the box and into the fight cage. His bluegreen eyes were narrowed to slits in the bright spotlights as his gaze darted over the audience. As the audience ooo'd and ahh'd, the lion roared again, his yellow fangs glistening. He hadn't noticed the other creature in the cage with him... yet.

He didn’t know what was going on, as he was tossed into the fighting cage. Brown eyes wide with fright, he could barely breathe because of whatever was sprayed upon him. Fox had been tending to the circus animals when he was offered a new job, little did he realize what exactly the job was. As soon as he heard the wild beast he pressed himself against one wall of the cage.

Fox knew there would be no pleading or bargaining, especially when he realized he had an audience. No, whatever was about to happen was inevitable. His entire body shook uncontrollably, waiting for his fate.

Still using a mic as he had been, but speaking more quietly than he had before, the ringleader asked the audience to quiet so that the cougar could calm down. The murmurings of the audience began to hush and the rest of the lights in the warehouse turned off completely. Soon, with the bright spotlights pointed directly at them, the two creatures in the cage were competely unable to see the people who surrounded them. As the sounds around him quieted, the cougar stopped snarling, though he did not relax his posture. He remained crouched defensivley, his muscles stiff, his ears back. His eyes still darted around at the crowd beyond the cage, even though the spotlights blinded him too much for him to be able to pick the out from the shadows. The big cat still knew they were there because he could smell their bodies and their breaths. But, soon, a different scent attracted his attention.

The large cat lifted his head, his nose lifted into the air as he looked for the scent again. He quickly caught it and, reflexively, his lip curled up into a strange grimace. He was exhibiting the Flehmen response, meaning he had caught the scent of a female and was holding the scent in a special organ above his palate, testing the scent to see if the female that had released the scent was ready to mate. For a few moments, the lion contuined testing the scent. The longer he spent doing this, the more he seemed to forget the aggression he had been showing a moment before. Finally, the cougar's face relaxed, returning to normal, and his eyes opened, looking in the direction the scent had come from and landing on Fox.

The lights turning off around him made the boy jump, but still cling to his corner. The spotlight that came on was very hot, but the poor-excuse-for-clothing he wore was fairly light. It was a tan t-shirt that was already in tatters and black trousers that weren’t much better. The ringleader had never cared much for how Fox looked, after all he only worked behind the scenes. His mother long-dead hadn’t left anything for him either.

Brown eyes were wide with fear, looking left and right. This was until they landed on the cougar. He had seen the wild cat before, but only briefly. It was one animal he had not been requested to handle. He wondered if he was about to be eaten alive before these people, or what the intentions of him being here would be. His heart was pounding rapidly, positive the beast could hear it from where it stood.

When his blue, green, and gold eyes landed on the boy, the cougar seemed unsure. And, of course, what he smelled and what he saw did not match up. After a few seconds though, the strong scent of female in heat overpowered his confusion. He stepped towards the boy, making low, growling sounds in his throat which were very different from the shrieks and screams he had been making before. Although he walked slowly, the cage was not all that large and, in a moment, his powerful body was within easy reach of Fox, close enough that the boy could make out the many faint disturbances in the flow of the cougar's thick fur where long scars lay on the skin beneath.

The large cat stretched his neck out, his nose snuffling against Fox's shirt at his side. He took in the scent again, lips curling up in that same grimace that exposed fangs as long as Fox's fingers.

Fox stared at the the large cat in fear, unable to bring himself to move. He barely even breathed as it neared. Up close he could tell it had been abused, a lick of anger flaring up within him at that moment. It didn’t last as his fear became prominent once more.

Was he going to be eaten? What was the purpose of all this?

The cat began inspecting him and he held his breath. Afraid any movement would upset it. A hand lifted hesitantly and he reached out. A bold move for someone so scared, but Fox had always had a bond with animals.

Sensing the movement, the large cat opened his eyes and looked at the frightened boy. The hormones in the urine sprayed on Fox was having a strong effect on the mountain lion's behavior. Normally, it would not have tolerated any human at all to be near it. But the smell and the instincts it aroused overrode everything. Instead of snarling or trying to rip Fox apart, as the cougar would have done with any other creature at any other moment, he purred and nudged his nose against the outstretched hand. He was trying to "woo" Fox, courting him with soft noises and gestures as he would have with a female in heat.

Fox didn’t understand the truth behind the cougar’s actions. All he felt was relief that the creature seemed to not completely hate him. With any luck he would only get a beating from the ringleader and not be mauled by the beautiful beast. After a moment he attempted to move his hand to pet the cat’s head and scratch behind it’s ears. Each movement was slow and precise to allow the creature a chance to see what he was doing. Fox also began to mimic the sounds in hopes it would ease the cougar.

Whether fortunately or not, the sounds Fox made were exactly what the cougar wanted to hear as they were the sounds a female would make if she were receptive to a male's advances. Excited now, the cougar made louder vocalizations and nudged his cheek against Fox's hip. On his underside, the cougar's spined cock began to swell and emerge from its sheath.

The smell of female in heat was all over the cougar now, driving him wild, especially since it had been a long time since the ringleader had used him for illegal breeding. The cougar nudged at Fox again, more insistently this time, trying to push him over. He wanted his "female" on all fours so "she" could be mounted. Impatiently, the cougar grasped Fox's pants in his teeth, tugging a bit. This fabric was getting in the way of him exploring his newly found mate's body.

It seemed to be working, but in unexpected ways. The nuzzling eased the redhead, but then the cougar was nudging, pushing, and biting. Fox was confused, but was afraid he would anger the beast. He didn’t understand what the beast wanted, he was currently kneeling. However, after a few more nudges he got on all fours. He reached a hand back to tug back on his pants in an attempt to keep them up. From the angle he looked at the beast, he was unaware of it’s arousal. Fox at this point had gotten used to the smell of whatever had been sprayed on him.

When Fox got on all fours, that excited the cougar even more. He was ready to go. He wanted to mate! He firmly grabbed a mouthful of Fox's pants and began to tug hard, even raising a paw to dig his claws into the fabric and rip it. Luckily, the tugging had pulled the fabric of the pants away from Fox's skin so that the cougar's claws did not rip into his flesh as well. With a few frustrated growls and the loud ripping sounds of Fox's pants being pulled away in shreds, Fox's nether region was exposed, the bottoms of his pants legs still on his legs in shreds.

The cougar spat out a moutful of thread and fabric and his eyes focused on Fox's behind. His cock fully extended, vibrant purpleish red, the cougar didn't seem to care that Fox looked very different from the females he had impregnated for the owner's profit. It was obvious that the lack of fur or tail did not put him off a bit as he swiftly mounted Fox, rising up on his hindlegs to wrap his thick forelimbs around the boy's slender waist. A bit awkwardly, the cougar shifted around on his hind legs as he brought his cock to Fox's rear until the boy could feel it nudging around, trying to find an orfice.
