Name: Janus Grayson
About: Art student. Quiet and rather withdrawn Janus prefers his own company and that of his paints. His past is not well known but he is the son of a single mother and struggled with depression. Mother was a professor of ancient history, hence his name and she believes that life is just a gateway.
The day was bright and warm. Overhead the azure sky was free of clouds and the air was warm with the edge taken away with a gentle breeze that rustled the trees that lined the walkway to the college doors.
The building was old and a lot of work and effort had been put into keeping the architecture as original as possible and preserving the grounds and history.
For the most part it had been a success and the sandy walls had spanned the years, taking in and producing what they felt were only the best until the states opened the gates for the less effluent to attend.
Janus fell somewhere in between. His family wasn't exactly wealthy but they weren't poor as church mice either.
A student of art his mother had saved well over the course of her teaching career and had been left a decent sum from his late father. It meant even on part time hours they had enough to live comfortably and with the help of a scholarship he had gotten into a decent college.
In truth this had been his second choice. The first had been more affordable and closer to home which meant not having to live in the dormitories but after finding out the person who had made his life a misery all through high school had been going...well. It had been a no brainer.
Blue eyes looked back over his shoulder at the expansive grounds and the greenery about them. He gave a small, nervous smile. There were at least a lot of places to work and who knew, maybe he'd actually come across someone he could get on with this term.
He stepped aside to allow two chattering females past, holding the door as he did so. The one nodded in brief acknowledgement without missing a word of her conversation.
Following them in he checked the paper for the room number. He felt a slight wave of nausea but swiftly swallowed. First days were always nightmares...even if this was just the start of a new year.
He swung his leather rucksack back onto his shoulder and headed down the lilac corridor, his footsteps echoing along with the others towards the room on the right, thankful for to see he wasn't the first there but wasn't the last either.
E͜͠r͜͠i͜͠c͜͠h͜͠ G͜͠l͜͠a͜͠s͜͠s͜͠Erich, 20 years of age, had always loved his mother very much, to a young man, she is everything, he believed in her every word, and trust her that she would not betray him or abandon him. But he woke up one morning and his whole world was turned upside down. His mother is gone, she died of an ailment, for a young Erich, it was his first abandonment. He grew up in this big mansion, and his mother was the governess for the children of the clan. They were old money, and the hired help was considered to be persona non grata, should not be seen especially heard, their opinion holds no value and their presence is a nuisance even an ornament in this sprawling mansion has more value than their worth. And Erich grew up with the knowledge that he can never be considered more than anything but the son of the governess, which means he is worth not even the dirt of their shoes. He wishes his mother had left things the way it is. But on her deathbed, she told him things would be looking up for him from now on. And he felt he was cheated of the chance to get angry or to even speak his own opinion and ever since that fateful night, he had resented the only person he had ever love with his entire being.
Growing up, a father figure was never ever mentioned, all he was told that he died. He can accept that. And he wished his mother had left it at that, had given him the freedom to choose his path, and what he really wanted to do with his life. But because of his mother, his life was altered, and he can never get back the person he had lost or the person that he was ever again. He would not be anything else but Erich Simpson Glass.
At a young age of twenty, he had learned his place but after his mother's passing, things change. At first, he can understand their resentment, their anger and their treatment of him. After all, they all grew up together, though, when they were younger, the class was not ever been an issue. They would share their toys with him, play with him, and on occasion, he gets to dine with them like he was part of the family. But now, because of the secret that his mother had revealed before she passed, his whole world shattered completely. He did try to question it when they were older, but he didn't expect the answer they would give him.
He discovered his real father has always been close by, and now he realized why the old man had always been nice to him. Had always make an exception only for him, and sometimes it had caused friction with the other children of the other hired help. When his mother told him, that he is one of them, at first he thought she had gone mad and had been spouting delirium on her deathbed. But after her burial, he thinks he was still in shock when his things were brought up to the mansion, and his father had called him to his study and there he is with the man whom he knew as the man's lawyer. He is still not used to the idea of his mother's employer being his father, but he had ecstatically acknowledged him, and he was thrilled he said that he can finally do right by him, and this is one of them, that is why he was "summoned" he is now officially included in the family tree, Erich Glass, that is his new name now, from Erich Simpson. He is now, Erich Glass, he was enrolled now in one of the prestigious school in the country, luckily for Erich's point of view, he only has one "sibling" to worry about, and to ease the tension, Samuel Glass has always been nice to Erich, though now they developed a barrier between them, Samuel hasn't shown any resentment to their newly "acquired" brother or rather newly "acknowledged" brother still there is now a gap between them, when they would pass each other in the halls, Samuel would just look at him like he wasn't there at all. For Erich, that is better than being shamed for something, he never asked for or even wish for himself in the first place.
He was actually glad that his father had told him he can stay in a dorm, the tension in the mansion has been running him ragged, and he had lost a lot of weight. Though his demeanor hasn't changed, they developed resentment towards him when he was scolded by their own father for calling one of his brothers, "master" since he had always used to call them as such all his life, he was told that he is now a Glass, he should get used to being one of them. So easy to say, but very hard to accomplish.
He looked up when the door to the room opened, he was told that there would be another student rooming with him. He is not used to this kind of lavishness or luxury since he is used to sleeping under the stairs of the main house, there is a little storage space there that the late Mrs. Glass has said can be his room. He had outgrown that room and had always been staying at the male hired help quarters until he was summoned and all his things were moved to a proper room in the main house.
He was still absorbing everything that has been happening, even to the verge that he wanted to just run away from all of this. But then, he couldn't resist the offer, to go to college and earn a degree, he can finally get a decent job, but with the circumstances now, he was sure there would also be some more resentments coming towards him in the future. He tensed up a bit, wondering if by some weird twist of fate that they also sent one of his "brothers" to check up on him.
