Caroline.jpg
Caroline was sitting in the cafeteria, eating lunch by herself at a table in the back. At first glance, one would think Caroline was very out of place in this hospital... and she was in a way. She had her long violet hair tumbling around her. She had altered the standard uniform everyone had to wear, much to the annoyance of her doctors and nurses who had given up on trying to control that long ago. She cut the shirt so it was now a tight (ish) tank top and the pants so they were now shorts. She loved to show off her body as she was very proud of it. She wanted people to look and look they did. It helped her feel grounded. Well as grounded as she could be.

Caroline worked very hard in not letting anyone who did not need to know what her illness was and why she was here. Many patients asked and some even said she should not be here, as she seemed way to normal but normal she was not.

She generally preferred to eat alone, which was why she was all by herself. She could very easily find herself an eating companion but everyone here tended to bore her. She had some friends who she talked to every now and then and even some people who she toyed with whenever she fancied.

She looked up from her meal when she heard some footsteps and grinned when she saw her doctor standing before her. "Why hello doc, my session isn't for another three hours, what did I do to deserve this honor?" Caroline asked with a smirk.

Her doctor, (Dr. Adams) just rolled her eyes. "Alright Caroline cut it. We are getting a new patient admitted today and since they are being roomed right next door to you, I have picked you to be their tour guide" Dr. Adams said, crossing her arms and bracing herself for what she knew was coming.

Caroline sighed in an over dramatic fashion. "What do I get out of this? It is going to be just another whiny depressed suicidal teenager who is sad because her daddy won't let her go see her boyfriend Jason"

Dr. Adams let out a chuckle. "Not this time sweetheart, this one may interest you. Come on" Dr. Adams motioned for Caroline to follow.

Caroline sighed but got up and after dumping her tray, followed Dr. Adams to her office where the new intake sat waiting. Dr. Adams went and sat at her desk, while Caroline leaned against the door frame and crossed her arms, which made her already large breasts look even larger.

Dr. Adams smiled at the new patient. "Okay so here is your tour guide for today, This is Caroline" Dr. Adams said, introducing Caroline.

Caroline smirked at the new patient, waiting to see what they were going to do.

KEIGO LEIGH

Keigo, 25, is everything but average, to describe this man, one has to go by describing a perfect wine. Keigo is like a fine wine, aged with perfection, the taste is a fusion of spice and with a hint of fire, smooth as it goes down on your palate with a tinge of kick as it hits your senses, it is something that would make you drown with desire and intoxicated that you wouldn't want to sober up after drinking every inch of him.

『 At First Glance』

He is tall, dark and handsome. He is often alone and always keeps to himself. Often he will have his back against the wall, with a cigarette hanging between his lips. On the outside, no one could tell that there is an even darker person hiding behind this cool, calm and collected guy. He doesn't talk much unless it is necessary. He snapped at work so now he is here because his boss said he is a flight risk that he is in a lot of stress, and he finally snapped and they said he must suffering from Anxiety disorder.

『 Stoic, Cold, Aloof, Misanthrope 』

He is The Lab's number one Seeker, most often a stoic guy which is why the scientists often rely on him to bring back the runaways, because he always follows orders without any questions asked. He is in his late twenties. He likes a certain brand of cigarette that stays in the air and is often associated with him. He wears a leather trench coat. He is older and different and was already converted to do stuff for the scientists, like catch the kids who try to run away. He's got a homing device planted in his skull, it's used to find him when they send him out to do their errands. He was also programmed and trained to be a recluse and listen only to orders given by the scientists.

『 The Ups 』

o Camel Lights (Blue)
o Black leather trench coat
o Extreme black badass leather boots
o His Harley bike

『 The Downs 』

o Sweets hate them
o Non-menthol cigarettes
o Non-draft beer
o Non-scheduled works

『 Weapons of choice 』

Before he was found by The Lab, he thought his gifts were magic. He was accidentally electrocuted when he was 9 years old. It was also accidental when he discovered them. It is not really magic, but he can turn off the lights at random and turn radio at random. The Lab had put it to good use and manipulated an impressionable boy who needed guidance for the use of his new gifts. He is pretty strong. He used to be bullied before he had his accident, so the accident had given him the courage to finally learn to defend himself.

『 Once upon a time... 』

Keigo is not his real name; the scientists said that his real name sounded wimpy so they changed it. And because of all the experiments and operations they did on the poor boy, they had created a new person who is more of a droid than human, the real person had been lost eons ago from his accidental electrocution to the top Seeker.

"What are you looking at?" Keigo asked, and one of the patients were looking at him since he just got there he looks like a tall bodyguard wearing a black trench coat with a cigarette dangling in his mouth, he was probably waiting for Dr. Adams to be distracted before he took out his cigarette and started smoking.

The patient pointed at Keigo, "Smoking is bad. Who are you what are you doing here?" the patient wouldn't be bullied.

Keigo didn't want to get into any more trouble so he ignored him and focus his attention once again at Caroline. And he knew that Dr. Adams was looking at him and his cigarette.

"Look doc, this is therapy, unless you want your facility intact, you are not going to take away my cigarettes," he said, glancing at the doctor and gave them a glare.

Caroline cocked her brow at Keigo. "I am looking at you, obviously. Have a problem with that?" Caroline asked, her tone a challenge.

Dr. Adams ignored Caroline and addressed Keigo. "So we can't let you have those inside but we can set up a plan with you and you can smoke outside. Will you agree to that?"

Keigo shook his head. And chuckled in disgust. "Are you seriously kidding me?" he asked and looked at Dr. Adams and then at Caroline, "I already told you I don't know what I am doing here, I don't even belong here. There is nothing wrong with me, whoever said I need to be here is lying. I probably pissed them off, or some ex who wants some payback." Keigo said.

He turned and looked at Caroline, "Who did you piss off? He asked, "Must be some serious prick to land you in here." he said, and shook the cigarette pack offering her one.

The last thing he remembered when he was being ushered in the facility, he had a huge argument with his boss it was probably when he punched him and told him he would not have sex with him, the next thing he knew, he was being admitted to this facility because of anger issues, and psychological disorder.

Caroline rolled her eyes. "Chill out cupcake. I get it. Someone fucked you over and you do not belong here. Hopefully you can get out soon but at this moment you are stuck here. Might as well try to follow at least some of the rules. It will get you stuck in the padded room less. I would know, I get thrown in there all the time." Caroline met his eyes and gave him a look that said 'Dude just follow my lead'

Dr. Adams gave Caroline a suspicious look but did not say anything for the time being.

Keigo nodded, taking on the cue from Caroline. Then his attention turns to the doctor, "Okay, maybe I would need to read all those rules and regulations again, I must have skimmed through it too fast missed out some parts of it." he said, and nodding again, toning down the angst.

"Right, I think I should go to my room now, and take up on the tour may be a little later. Would that be possible, doc. I think I am a little tired. But yes, please do show me the paperwork I signed again, just to be certain I am not overstepping my boundaries. I'm claustrophobic, I would get into panic attacks in tight or small spaces, start to hyperventilate." And just talking about it right now, he is starting to feel his heart is racing just thinking he might be sent there it finally dawned on him this is real, this is not some test, this hospital is real, Caroline is real, and what she said about the padded room is real, and this doctor standing right beside them is real, like a god who can and decide to send him to hell and back if he wanted to, invasive therapy and all of those treatment he deemed necessary for whoever patient he decide to inflict it on.

His knees started to shake a little, and he clutched at his shirt front, his cigarette dropped to the floor, he is starting to have a panic attack.

Dr. Adams saw the signs of an upcoming panic attack but stopped in surprise when she saw Caroline also step forward and crouch in front of Keigo. She never saw Caroline even attempt to help another patient and she wondered if this was a sign Caroline was improving.

Caroline met his eyes, her violet eyes calm. "Hey, listen. Just listen to me and I'll make sure you stay out of there, alright?" Caroline said, her voice calm.

Oh what can you do, you no good whore? You are worthless anyway A gravely voice distracted Caroline and she looked to the left of Keigo where the voice came from and her eyes widened. A black shrouded figure appeared next to Keigo. The figure pulled its hood back and Caroline's whole body stiffened. The figure's face was horrifying and grotesque. A skeleton face with bulging red glowing eyes and sharp teeth and a long serpent like tongue. I should just kill you now, shouldn't I? Or I can help them come get you and lock you away for good

Dr. Adams immediately noticed the change in Caroline. She saw her look at something next to the new intake and her body freeze in terror. Dr. Adams immediately stood and walked over to Caroline and crouched next to her, setting a gentle hand on Caroline's shoulder. Caroline was shaking. "Caroline? Are your hallucinations coming back?" Dr. Adams asked softly.

As soon as she was touched, the figure disappeared and Caroline stood, shaking her head. "Pfft of course not. I was just lost in thought. Come on new guy, I will show you to your room. Lucky for you, your room is next to mine" Caroline said, winking at Keigo. Her voice having some of her normal sarcasm in it but was just the slightest bit shaky.

If Keigo followed, Caroline would lead him to his room. "Here you are. Want me to keep you company?" Caroline asked with a smirk, now back to her normal self.

Hearing Caroline's voice, at first it sounded so far away, like from a distant and it was completely muffled, but that is how it has always been every time he has these episodes, people would be talking to him, touching him, shaking him, and as for him, he would hear them, or feel them, he can see them, like he had an out of body experience and he was floating above the scene, he can see himself and he can see the people who are trying to help him.

But this time something was a little off, he couldn't see anything or hear anything, but he can really feel something, it was so cold, like dry ice that burns the skin. It was cold, and it was searing his skin to blister. It only lasted a moment but he cannot determine how long it was but it was quick, he was suspended in limbo as Caroline seems to interact at that presence, he cannot distinguish what it was, he knew it was not human, but the only thing he can describe it with is as a presence.

Her voice jars him from his episode and somehow managed to pull him back, his breathing is still a little erratic, his hand was shaking, but he had calmed down, and with a salute to the doctor, he followed Caroline to their hallway. Along the way when they were out of earshot, "W-What was that..." he trailed off, still hesitant if he should ask.

"That thing, it was cold, so cold it burns my skin. I can't see it or hear it but I definitely feel it. It gives me the shivers." he said, and shuddered again at the memory.

"If you don't mind, I don't know if I am going to calm down in a strange place alone, just stay with me, if you can, even just for a while." he requested.

Caroline was still spooked that Reigo had also seemed to see her hallucination as well. When he asked her to stay, She agreed and led him into the bare room All that was in there was a single bed with a pale yellow comforter and a desk with a plastic chair. Caroline sat down on the bed and after kicking her shoes off, curled her feet up under her. She patted the bed next to her, motioning for him to sit next to her.

It was all so new, unlike the real world, this is not something he would carry his weight around. One false move and he would land somewhere he never thought a place that exists, or a treatment that has been practiced time immemorial, whoever fucked Sigmund Freud or Karl Jung must have fucked up big time. Psychoanalysis is still practiced until today, it is the rebirth of new science an invasive and safer way for doctors of psychology to justify their inhuman practices, shock therapy, water therapy, lobotomy, where a doctor would hammer a sharp ice pick like into the patient's eye, to perform psychosurgery, to remove specific brain area if all other treatments failed.

Keigo sat down next to her and sighed, he looked down at his hands, "I'm tired. I never realized that rationalizing your sanity can be this hard." he stated.

"There are certain things I see, feel or even hear that no other person even if they are sitting next to me would react to, it has happened a number of times. So this is why they sent me here?" he asked.

"Or my boss is trying to sweep a harassment lawsuit under the rug, which is hypothetically is me, and swept me over here so I won't sue him for sexual harassment." he sighed.

"Well, I guess, it is a matter of looking at the big picture or thinking outside the box."

Caroline nodded. looking down at her hands nodded together in her lap. "I usually do not like to have people knowing my disorder. They start to stare and ask about what I see and where it is, etc. It makes the terrifying things I see much more real"

Keigo was about to say something else when three orderlies came in. He had his hand up and mouth open but stopped to look at the men that came in. He didn't panic since he thought they were just bringing his things in but their hands are empty except for one of them. They didn't say anything but just suddenly grabbed Keigo up and before he can react stuck a needle on his arm.

"What's up, guys?" He asked smiling stiffly as they helped him to his feet.

"What's going on?" He asked, starting to panic a little as he was helped to his feet he still didn't resist not really panicking just yet.

Then the syringe went to his arm and he barely had time to react but could only give a surprised yelp.

The orderly who stuck a needle at Keigo's arm put a finger to his lips as to signal to Caroline to keep quiet.

Keigo tugged at one of Caroline's foot before his arm sagged back down to the floor as they eased him down to the floor.

And as quiet and quick they came, they left. Leaving Caroline with Keigo slumped on the floor.

Then a doctor came to check on his vitals. He looked up at Caroline. "He is going to be fine. It's just a welcome package courtesy of his sponsor. You better go back to your room he is going to be out the whole night." He said.

When the orderlies came in, She jumped up to intervene but was grabbed and restrained by another one of the orderlies. Caroline stopped fighting knowing it would do them no good.

Caroline sat down next to Keigo on the floor, watching him to make sure he was okay.

When the doctor came in she scowled and stood up, glaring. She was so filled with anger she could not speak At his words, she acted before she thought of what the consequences would be.

She spat right in the doctors face telling him "Fuck off"

The doctor ordered that Caroline should also be given some Lorazepam. But instead of a regular low dose, she was given the same amount as Keigo's. And to be sure she is calmed down they were both placed in iced water baths. Patients were often forced into baths for a minimum of several hours. The bath was often covered by a sheet so that only the patients head wasn’t under water. The patients would sometimes be strapped in so that they couldn’t move and would have to be fed by staff. Bath temperatures typically ranged from 92-99°F to avoid causing injury to the patients. However, cold water was used to treat manic-depressive psychoses at temperatures between 48-70°F to slow down blood flow to the brain and decreasing mental and physical activity. On a few occasions, patients would be cooled down in ice water baths or wrapped in sheets soaked with freezing water.

"You have really been a problem Caroline, and we don't want you teaching new things to this new patient, otherwise we would confine you in the Utica Crib." the doctor said. Many died because they couldn’t sit still and began to panic and go into shock. Some patients died in the Utica Crib because attendants would place them in there for being out of control when in reality they were having a heart attack, a stroke, or another serious health problem. Use of the Utica Crib continued into the 20th century.

Caroline would kick and fight their every move, not making it easy for them to drug her and placing her in the bath. She managed to get a good swing on the doctor, clocking him in the mouth before she was placed in the icy water.

Caroline forced herself to not make a visible reaction, glaring at them until the meds began to kick in.

Keigo slowly woke up and when he did he started to have one of his attacks, since he is not used to being submerged in ice baths, and given a syringe it was all new to him, the nurses panicked when he looked like he was having a seizure that they pulled him out of there. Then his eyes landed on Caroline, he felt something, though it was probably a residue of the drugs they pumped in his arms, he shouted and pointed at her, "Get her out, get her out, she is not breathing!" he said, his strength was overwhelming, he had managed to flip over the orderlies over his shoulder and toss them across the room like a rag doll.

"What is going on here?" Dr. Adams asked, the panicked and harassed nurses and orderlies said that Keigo is having a seizure and told them too that Caroline is not breathing. To calm Keigo down, he told them to pull Caroline out.

"Pull her out." he commanded, and then turned to Keigo, "Okay she is free now," he said, and that seemed to work and he calmed down. He can tell now that he is going to be a handful but the fascinating thing was Keigo had taken a liking to Caroline so he sees it as a positive note, he can use that as a leverage to get them to behave the way he wants them to since they can't seem to separate and always need and defend each other ever since they first met.

"Take them back in their rooms, but move him to the vacant room next to her, that way there wouldn't be anymore incident like this." he didn't like it, but he has a plan.
