Thread Purging

Due to a rise in prohibited content being posted, staff will be purging threads. Yes, whole threads. The rules count as your first warning; messages to you are a second. If other participants do not report offensive content, they, too are culpable. While participants may or may not be banned at this time, bans may be handed out in the future. As there are a great number of threads on the forum this will be an ongoing process.

Consider this being notified. Feel free to PM staff if you feel your thread was removed unfairly, however, prior to doing so, we encourage all users to thoroughly read over our rules once more. And when doing so, keep in mind that by signing up on our forum, you agree to be an adult and follow these rules.

And please do not attempt to use ignorance of the rules as an excuse when we have made numerous attempts to remind grown adults to behave.

I can see the logic where it's an RP thread containing some clandestine noncery, where one instance picked up by the bots would be indicative of the entire RP being shady. But I just noticed there's a 30-page political discussion thread that no longer exists, and I don't see the logic there, especially as I can't remember off-hand the thread having any content that was against the rules. If it was yeeted by the bots because one of the memes in it was too spicy, that seems excessive. Discussions threads are very different from roleplay threads, because they go all over the place and involve multiple users popping in and out, so one foul post should not paint the whole thread in that case.

I can see a result of this rule being that users should not let their threads grow too long--to break up discussions into smaller threads, and roleplays into discrete chapters--since the longer the thread, the greater the risk of it abruptly disappearing one day.

Regardless of if you see the logic or not, users reported inappropriate memes ranging but not limited to the sexualization of children, perpetuating harmful stereotypes, and other things staff don't have to explain. I know what thread you're referring to; this purge isn't targeted. In RP threads, people attempt to sneak other things in links in their walls of text. This is site wide, not a witch hunt.

At the end of the day, people need to understand the rules apply to everyone. If people can't take warnings seriously, they should be prepared to lose content. This honestly would have happened sooner, but we have lives off the forum and as a collective wanted to make sure we're on the same page.

What if a character is intended to be evil due to story purposes?

Say, I have a NPC, as a hypothetical example, that is a drug dealer, so he is incredibly racist, sexist and a homophobe for extra evilness. If he rants about his views, as if trying to justify them (which sexists usually do), would that be against the forum rules or would a post like this be exempt from the purgue due to being in-story?

I don't plan on doing that, btw, I just got curious.

I'd say "Use your best judgment" but clearly since we have to warn users so often, that's obviously lacking. If you are obviously writing in character, then I doubt your post would be moderated. However if you wanted to add a "my character was sexually abused as a child" trope, then yes, thread purged.
